Man Mountain
Climbing Man Mountain
Hiking up Man Mountain

Enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime mountain hike to Man Mountain, Colorado’s oldest sacred mountain with a documented history of approximately 10,000 years. The trails leading to Man Mountain are open to Elkhorn guests and we typically have over 1,000 hikers make the summit each summer; the round trip takes from 1 to 3 hours, depending individual hikers.

We encourage all large groups to make this novice climb, including family reunions, wedding parties, conferences and seminar groups and all of our individual families as, for most, it is will be the first time in their life that they actually climb a mountain that represents a real challenge. This is an accomplishment that some have thought they could never achieve, and is an event they will remember for the rest of their lives.

Man Mountain is one of only three documented vision-quest sites in Colorado - and is reported to be the oldest and the largest. History buffs should check out Elkhorn's brief on the History of Man Mountain
!

The hike itself involves most basic elements of hiking and mountain climbing. Additionally, when groups make the trip they learn the importance of assisting their fellow hikers, and of hiking at the pace of the slowest member of the group. We have had numerous confirmations from individuals in reunions and large conferences that the group hike was the best experience of their time in Estes Park.

Our practice has been to attempt to take groups of engaged couples planning their wedding at the Elkhorn during the summer, to the Man Mountain summit; they will then encourage their guests to make the journey while they attend to the wedding details.
