The
Coach House was the original stage coach terminal for
Estes Park; in 1877 you could purchase a $4 ticket for
one-way trip from Lyons to Estes, along with 50 pounds
of luggage. You will notice in our historical picture
scrap-book under 'About the Elkhorn'.
The Coach House was much smaller at that time, and additional
decks have been added along with rooms along the back-side.
Its history includes being one of Northern Colorado's
gambling sites with one-armed bandits, one of the more
popular saloons, Estes' finest steak houses, a restaurant
offering stage shows, and a residence for larger groups.

Currently the Coach House is the Elkhorn's premier lodge
featuring sleeping space for 25, excluding the slumber party-deck
for kids & their sleeping bags. In addition to the campers'
deck, the main deck is sufficiently large for a 70-80 person
cocktail party that also has a large private jacuzzi, two
BBQ's, a smoker and tables and chairs for 25 (not counting
the banister bench seating); this deck offers spectacular
Man Mountain views.
| To
the right is a partial view of the Coach House living
room and kitchen area. In the past we have offered
satellite TV but the feedback for guests was that
they never used it - as family and guest visiting
was more important. We have eliminated the satellite
connection but have the TV and a VCR for groups that
need to keep the kids quiet.
The
Coach House offers a full kitchen and adequate space
for group activities, and is one of the most economical
locations available in Estes Park. Due to the spacious
accommodations, it is possible to keep the average
cost/person/night in the $25-35 range. |
|
Given the Coach House's location [10-minute walk to the Town
Center eliminating the hassle of sharing cars to go anyplace]
and the capability of preparing and serving food for a large
number of people eliminates the need for commercial $6 breakfasts,
$8 lunches, and $16 dinners - the sum of these cost savings
represents a significant amount.

for kids on-the-floor in most of the bedrooms. There
are 7 bathrooms, including that are not enclosed in
any of the bedrooms so that guests and others always
have access to an bedroom without disturbing others.
